Customer Rating: Summary: An X-Plosive game! Comment: Ready for some more X-cellent fun and action? If so, read the review and purchase afterwards!
Graphics: Awesome enhanced 16-bit graphics for 1997, on par with SOTN
Gameplay: Traditional Mega Man X gameplay for X, side-scrolling hack n' slash/Classic Mega Man gameplay for Zero
Sound/Music: Awesome music, superb sounds
Voice-Acting: Nice touch but downright terrible
Plot: After Mega Man X and Zero took down the threat made by Dr. Doppler and Sigma, the Reploid Army known as the Repliforce is amassing it's troops to create a utopia for Reploids, X and Zero now battle the Repliforce to preserve humanity
THE CONS:
-Bad and poorly thought-out voice-acting (Listen to X's voice!)
-Sometimes can be frustratingly difficult
-The Anime intro lacks the original Japanese vocal theme song
THE PROS:
-Great graphics
-Superb Anime cutscene animation
-Play as X or Zero
-Great music and sounds
-Fun to do 100% runs
And so: Grab this great game, best of all there's still some copies in new condition!

Customer Rating: Summary: Wait...didn't I review this already? Comment: (Note: this product was actually the first product I'd ever reviewed, when I was 13, but Amazon deleted it for some reason. So I'm writing another one...)
The other day I ordered the Mega Man X collection to relieve old nostalgic memories, and one game I was ready to play was this one. I can say that this is probably the best of the X series, though I still need to play the others again first.
STORY: Basically, Sigma manipulates Repliforce to fight against the Maverick Hunters, and it's up to X or Zero to save the day. Not too complicated, but on Zero's story, it digs deeper into his origins.
GRAPHICS: It's quite interesting to see 2D graphics on a system that mostly is 3D, as the sprites are clean, colorful, and fluid. Even though they look outdated by today's standards. The game also has several anime cutscenes, which all flow smoothly.
MUSIC: Unlike the first three, the music isn't really guitar oriented, but still nice to listen to.
SOUND/VOICE ACTING: The sounds, well, what can I say. Gunshots, explosions, all that good stuff. The voice acting is AWFUL, especially X's voice.
GAMEPLAY: It's the first game where you can fully play as Zero, who is more melee than X. Zero uses his Z Saber and instead of getting weapons from bosses, he learns new moves. Basically, it's like your average Mega Man game, but it has new twists, such as the ability to save, the fact that stages are divided into two parts, and there are more types of tanks to collect. The weapons and bosses are fun and innovative, especially when playing as Zero.
BUY?: I say get it, whether it's an emulator, in the X Collection, or on a regular PSX disc. Although it's short, it packs a lot of punch.
Customer Rating: Summary: The best of all the Mega Man games. Period Comment: I had played every Mega Man game up until X4 came out, and I can safetly say this is the best one ever. X5-X8 just had pictures with words which I thought was totally lame. With X4 they had complete cartoon anime scenes with full dialogue and how awesome was that? The game play was fantastic, the graphics were fantastic, you could play as Zero all the way through the game, Mega and Zero had their own story elements. Awesome game. One of the best ever.
Customer Rating: Summary: Perfect for newcomers to the X series Comment: I've been a Megaman fan nearly my entire life, and after 16 years of great gaming, I still play and enjoy all the MM titles I own. After completing the 3 mind blowing SNES MMX titles, I was concerned that a MM game on the Playstation wouldn't be nearly as good as the SNES games.
I couldn't have been more wrong! Honestly, I was absolutely blown away by this game. Sure, it still can't compare with the awesome SNES Megaman X titles, but who cares? This game rocks! It retains many of the qualities which made the SNES titles so much fun to play. You still collect heart tanks, sub-tanks, and armor upgrades from Dr. Light's capsules as you proceed through the game. You still battle 8 different maverick bosses, and the stages feature many different breathtaking environments.
A new feature to the X series which I was very happy to see was anime FMV cutscenes! These anime style cutscenes really help move the story along, as well as add a new twist to the series. The only problem with the cutscenes is that the voice acting can be exceedingly painful to listen to. Oh well, at least the voice acting in X4 shows improvement over that of the earlier Megaman 8.
Yet another new feature which many fans of the X series have come to appreciate is the ability to play as Zero throughout the entire game! At the start of the game, you are given the option to choose between Megaman X or Zero. But don't expect perfection, because whoever you choose, you will be stuck with for the rest of the game. This is the only problem with the character system. Sometimes, midway through the game, I felt an urge to play as the other character, which meant that I would have to restart the game from the beginning with that character. The music also didn't come anywhere near the awesome tunes which the SNES titles had to offer, although the music in X4 was at least appropriate...
But the good qualities of X4 far outweigh the bad. Basically, if you're a Megaman fan, you must not pass on X4. The cutscenes, new environments and weapons, and ability to choose different characters will keep you playing this game for longer than you would expect. If you don't at least try it, you're dead inside.
Customer Rating: Summary: Perhaps the second best in the Mega Man X series Comment: Mega Man X4 is the second best game in the X series.
Pros:
-2 different scenarios: play as X and receive various arm-shot weapons, or play as Zero and learn various sword techniques.
-Beautiful 2D graphics.
-New parts system.
-Bosses are new in style.
-Beautifully animated anime cutscenes.
-Cool new characters.
Cons:
-A little easy sometimes.
-HORRIBLE voice acting!
The bottom line: this is a very fun game to play, but there is one thing you might want to hear: Zero is not for beginners. His moves are much harder to learn. However, masters should challenge themselves playing it with Zero. If you enjoyed the first three (X3 is the best), then I highly recommend this.
