A. a spyro maniac B. you hate ember
Customer Rating: Summary: better on playstation Comment: Unfortunately I learned how to play Spyro on a Playstation, so I have had a hard time adjusting to the different set up of the X-Box controller. It is still a great game full of querky characters though.
My main problem was with the gems, the side games, and the purchasing items. In the original Spyro games, there were only a set amount of jewels you could collect from any one level. With this game, the jewels come back if you go to a different area and come back. It takes some of the search and find fun out of the game. Also, the side games are much more difficult. Beatable, but sometimes so difficult that I end up getting frustrated and chucking my controller. Moneybags comes back with a shop and to use things like fireballs you have to buy them. You have to buy keys to unlock chests, which is something I find to be a bit too much. Sometimes you are so deep in a level that when you come across a chest and don't have a key, you have to almost leave the level to go buy one. Also there are things you have to do in the first couple levels that you can't do until you have completed several others because they require powers that you don't get until later in the game. You are continually trying to go back and find where where those spots were. It is inconvienient.
Fortunately, I still love this game. The characters are hilarious, especially Sparx the dragonfly. I am hoping the new Spyro game will have some kinks worked out of it for hte X-Box system. If you have a Playstation and an X-Box, take the Playstation version. It is easier to control and figure out than the X-Box version. This makes sense considering it was originally a Playstation exclusive game.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great game for a 5 year old. Comment: Spyro was one of the first games my 5 year old ever played. It was challenging enough for him without being too frustrating. There are alot of Xbox games on the market that are for more mature audiences but this one was perfect for a 5 year old. This game was not meant for an adult gaming audience. I was surprised when I realized this game is no longer in production. There should be more games for the 5-10 age bracket. My son loves this game. He literally wore it out. I have to find him another copy of Hero's Tail to replace his old one.
Customer Rating: Summary: Horrible!!!! Comment: I really wanted to see how the developers could represent playing as a dragon, and spyro is the only one that came to mind at the time. I decided to get it, I put it in my console, turned it on, and was blown away...by the stupidity.
-Basic Story
Is stupid. Bad dragon plant mean gems to kill good dragon. Spyro good dragon, defeat evil dragon. Everybody dances because goodness prevailes.
-Gameplay
An atrocious story can be overlooked if the gameplay is good (mario?) but spyro has probably the worst gameplay ever. It combines horrible, precise jumping puzzles with abysmally stupid enemies. The puzzles require you to tap the jump button at a certain time. If you don't, you go back to the beginning of the puzzle. It was maddeningly hard at some points, and I am grown. So how hard would it be for a kid?
For the enemies, they should get the darwin award. At many instances I was breathing flame (it has a limited reach) and the enemy walked right into it! The enemies are dumber then a retarded 4 year old but margianally smarter than Paris Hilton. Also, they are very weak dying in 1-2 hits. There are also very few types of enemies (like around 2-6) but they have the same AI and equally pose no challenge, seeing as they are weak and attack you one at a time.
The boss battles are so simple they make you want to shoot yourself at how moronic they are. Also, playing as the other characters (hunter, blinx etc.) are not that fun.
In conclusion don't make the mistake I made and steer clear of this game. Get better ones for yourself whomever you are giving a gift to.
(Oh, and don't listen to the other people who gave this crudhole good reviews, they are either A. Retarded or B. Never played a decent game.)
