Summary: Installs Protection Software, Many Incompatabilities, No Support
Comment: Installs Securom. This is one of those copyright protection programs that you may never be rid of. Many people have had issues including myself with starting the game because incompatibilities between securom and other software makes securom think the DVD is a copy. Do some reading and you will also see that Sega offers no solution. Its been 18 months now, still no fix. Do your self a favor and try a game that does not have these frustrations.

Hail Flavius.

Summary: Good mechanics, interesting gameplay
Comment: Universe At War is a fairly accomplished RTS that presents enough new and unique elements to keep the game from becoming "just another RTS". The three factions are different enough to add a fair amount of variety in the campaigns.
The graphics for Universe At War are pretty good with the giant walkers, laser weapons, and massive explosions providing some pleasing eye-candy.
The online-multiplayer requires a Windows Live account but, from what I gather, that requirement has been made available free-of-charge to purchasers of this game.
Overall, Universe At War is a solid RTS with a good mix of variety and excitement to keep you playing til the end and then compelling enough to take you onilne to test your skills against the world.

Summary: Ok game, would have be excellent if sega fixed problems.
Comment: I pretty much agree with the other reviewers. It's a fun game to play with a few annoying things. I've only played the single-player. First of all the auto patch leads to a dead link, to find the update you have to goto the sega.com site and download it manually. Addtionally if you're running Vista like I am, it will crash randomly and run slower than mud. I almost threw the disk in the garbage. But magically if you uncheck DX10 in the settings, it will run just fine. On the upside it's easy and fun to play, it's just too bad that the various units/races seem to borrow a little from every genre in sci-fi, if done right it would have been charming, although it feels more like the developers just wanted to rush the thing out the door. it shows. Is it worth ten bucks or whatever. Yeah. Fifty? Nope.

Summary: No matter how cheap DONT BUY THIS GAME!!!
Comment: I bought this game for under 9 bucks new from amazon, it wasnt worth it. Its not fun, not pretty, and doest seem to work right and to top it off if you wanna sign into live your gonna have to give all sorts of personal info. Like your home number!?!?!?!?! Pay more get Starcraft. Sure its over a decade older but it looks better than this and plays much better. I have a hardcore gaming computer and I have to say this gave is an insult to it. I have no idea how this game got such good reviews. The final insult is everytime i start the game it tells me i need to download an update. The kicker is the update page never loads. NEVER! Save your money for another game. Im not even gonna try and recoup money and resell this game. I would feel wrong passing on to some one else. This is going into the trash.

Summary: It doesn't really feel like anyone is fighting
Comment: I like all genres of games. The only things I don't like are the scum of the genre (I mean the REALLY bad stuff). Universe at War doesn't fall into the category of the scum or the highlights of each genre like Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, Halo, and Unreal Tournament. To stand out today, a game needs originality, an interesting plot (if any), and a trully unique gameplay expirence. Universe at War has none of these.

On the the review...

Graphics. This game doesn't have much in the way of graphics, only some nice effects, yet the walkers (big machines thingies, example: the thing on the cover) are nicely detailed. But this game does run fairly well.

Sound. Not a lot really stands out here.

Gameplay. It tries to be the next gen replacement for Starcraft 2, but unfortunately, it falls painfully short. The real exitement in this game is in the three factions; Novus, Hierarchy, and the Masari. The Novus are machines that have the ability to move extremely quickly allong the battlefield (It takes the literally four seconds). The Hierarchy reily on heavily armed walkers instead of stable buildings, the are very slow though. The Masari have the ability to switch between a offense and defensive stile of play (Light and Dark Mode). This offers a little refreshment from the almost identical factions you see in other games. But when it comes down to the actual battles, the game just falls short.

Plot. Boring and Confusing, it doesn't really help that some of the plot is given away in the manual.

Multiplay. This is the highlight of the game, playing multiplayer is the ONLY thing that will keep you from erasing this game permanently from your hardrive. The artificial intelligence is good for training, but never will be able to substitute a real player.

Replay. If you have the patience to finish all the campaigns, then you will certainly move on to multiplayer and the game will last you a fairly decient time.

In conclusion, Universe at War is definately not a substitution for Starcraft 2. It tried to bring the Starcraft mechanics into the new generation of games before Blizzard, but it just did not make it.
